How to Search Kodiak Court Docket Records
The free online tool for searching Kodiak court docket records is CourtView. It is Alaska's statewide trial court case index and is open to everyone without registration. You can search by party name or case number. For Kodiak cases, the case number prefix reflects the Third District and the Kodiak court location. Type in the full name or try the last name alone first. Results show the case type, party names, filing date, and a list of docket events in chronological order.
CourtView gives you the docket sheet for any public case. It does not let you download the actual court documents, but it tells you what was filed, when hearings occurred, and what orders were issued. To get the actual documents, you need to submit a copy request. The CourtView information page describes the system and its limits. Cases that are confidential, sealed, or removed from the index under court rules will not appear in a CourtView search.
CourtView returns up to 500 results per search. If you get too many results, add more detail. If you get none, try a partial name or check the spelling. For companies or organizations as parties, search the name in all three available fields.
What Kodiak Court Docket Records Contain
A Kodiak court docket record shows the official history of a case. The docket sheet itself lists every event in the case from filing to final disposition. The case file behind it holds the actual documents that created those docket entries.
Felony criminal cases show charging documents, arrest warrant information, bail orders, plea agreements or trial records, sentencing orders, and probation conditions. Civil dockets show the complaint, the defendant's answer, any motions, responses to motions, and the final judgment. Domestic relations dockets in Superior Court contain divorce petitions, parenting plans, custody orders, child support calculations, and property division agreements. Probate dockets document estate administration from the initial petition to the final accounting. Small claims dockets are shorter but follow the same basic structure.
The Kodiak Superior Court also handles cases from more remote parts of the island and nearby communities that do not have their own courthouse. Those cases carry Kodiak case number prefixes and are accessible through the same systems. The range of materials in any given case file depends on how complex the case was and how it resolved.
Confidential categories such as juvenile records, adoption proceedings, mental health cases, and sealed files are not public. Only parties and their attorneys can access those files.
Requesting Copies of Kodiak Court Docket Files
To get copies of Kodiak court documents, complete the standard TF-311 form for all other Alaska locations. It is available on the Alaska Court System forms page. Submit the completed form by mail to 204 Mission Road, Room 122, Kodiak, AK 99615, or bring it in person during business hours. Include the party name or case number, a description of the documents you need, and your return address or contact information.
Fees apply. The first document costs $5.00. Each additional document requested at the same time costs $3.00. Certified copies cost $10.00 for the first and $3.00 for each additional certified copy of the same document. A name or year search requiring staff time is billed at $15.00 per name per year when manual staff work is needed. Research fees beyond that are $30.00 per hour. Audio recording copies require the TF-304 form and a $20.00 payment per CD.
In-person requests at the Kodiak courthouse can sometimes be filled the same day if the file is at that location. Mail requests take more time. Given that Kodiak is an island, mail response times may be longer than at mainland courts. Call (907) 486-1600 to ask about current processing times and whether your file is held locally or archived elsewhere.

Public Access and Privacy Rules for Kodiak Court Dockets
Alaska's court records are open to the public under AS 40.25.110, which requires public records to be available for inspection during regular hours. For court-specific records, Administrative Rules 37.5 through 37.8 set the framework. These rules spell out what is public, what is confidential, what is sealed, and how access works at Kodiak and every other Alaska trial court.
Certain Kodiak court docket records are not public. Juvenile cases, adoption proceedings, mental health records, and sealed matters are restricted to parties and their attorneys. Under AS 22.35.030, criminal cases where the defendant was fully acquitted or all charges were dismissed without a plea deal are removed from public websites after 60 days. These cases still exist in the court's records but are not accessible to the general public through CourtView or at the clerk's window without a court order. The Alaska Public Records Act gives requesters the right to challenge improper denials of access through a court action under AS 40.25.124.
